RAEFORD — A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious.

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.
The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs — including in-home day care centers — to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.
When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones.
The girl’s mother — who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation — said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a “healthy lunch” would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.
“I don't feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,” the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative, Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County.
The girl’s grandmother, who sometimes helps pack her lunch, told Carolina Journal that she is a petite, picky 4-year-old who eats white whole wheat bread and is not big on vegetables.
“What got me so mad is, number one, don’t tell my kid I’m not packing her lunch box properly,” the girl’s mother told CJ. “I pack her lunchbox according to what she eats. It always consists of a fruit. It never consists of a vegetable. She eats vegetables at home because I have to watch her because she doesn’t really care for vegetables.”
When the girl came home with her lunch untouched, her mother wanted to know what she ate instead. Three chicken nuggets, the girl answered. Everything else on her cafeteria tray went to waste.

A fascinating love story is behind the latest historical marker that has been dedicated in San Jacinto County, a fitting occasion to mark the 50th anniversary of the current Official Texas Historical Marker program.
It’s the story of William “Bill” Kelley, a white man, former slave plantation overseer and confederate soldier, and Dinah Rush, described as a “mulatto” freed slave.
In spite of their differences, this unlikely pair withstood hardship, racism, and a world that would never accept their relationship.
Bill and Dinah were not allowed to marry because of a federal law that prohibited the union. Nevertheless, the couple had 10 children together — nine of whom lived to adulthood — and were said to have loved each other to the end of both their lives, Dinah’s ending shortly after the birth of their 10th child, Bill’s ending 38 years later.
Betty Magee, chairman of the San Jacinto County Historical Commission, said the story came to light as a result of research done by one of the couple’s descendents, Keith Kelley.
“He and another family member, Ronald Kelley, have worked really hard on tracking down the history,” said Magee. “They’ve done a fantastic job.”
Magee said they were a good example of why the THC cemetery marker program is so important.
“The markers ensure the stories are preserved for future generations - stories that might not be told otherwise,” said Magee, adding that the SJCHC is interested in discovering more cemeteries in the county that could be preserved and recorded.
“We have over 30 different types of markers in San Jacinto County,” said Magee. “At least 15 are cemetery markers.”
Magee said having a record of the cemeteries is important in genealogical research, as well as other types of research. She said the SJCHC has published two books on the cemeteries of San Jacinto County, one in 1970 and an updated version in the ‘90s.
“I’d like to see more markers and cemetery markers,” said Magee. “A lot of people have cemeteries on their land. Anyone who has a cemetery can request a marker.”
Magee said currently the group is interested in finding military graves around the county and information on their background.
“There are cemeteries we don’t know about,” said Magee. “Sometimes it’s good just to let us know it’s there.”
The process of acquiring a cemetery marker can be lengthy.
The request must be approved through the local historical commission, then submitted to the state historical commission. Once approved, the cost of the marker must be paid by the family or party requesting the marker.
Magee said the process took the Kelley family about a year and half to complete.

Killer of Fla. girl found in landfill gets life

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Minutes after a man pleaded guilty to kidnapping, raping and murdering 7-year-old Somer Thompson, who was dumped in a trash bin and later found in a landfill, the little girl's twin brother addressed his sister's killer.

"You know you did this, and now you're going to jail," 9-year-old Samuel Thompson said to Jarred Harrell from the witness stand.
In a deal sparing Harrell the death penalty, the 26-year-old Harrell was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Somer's family was in favor of the deal because Harrell agreed not to appeal any of his convictions.
"Your punishment does absolutely not fit your crime," said Somer's mother, Diena Thompson. "Remember now, there is no safe place for you. You do not have an impenetrable cell. There will be no peace in the afterlife."
Somer was a second-grader living in Orange Park, Fla. — a suburb south of Jacksonville — when she disappeared while walking home from school on Oct. 19, 2009. She was with her sister and some friends, but ran ahead of them after they had a spat.
It was a route she had taken many times before, and she often stopped at a home to pet a white dog. Usually, no one came outside. On the day Somer disappeared, authorities said Harrell lured her into the home where he was living with his mother.
Two days later, she was discovered in a landfill in southern Georgia.
Harrell wasn't arrested until about three months after Somer's death. Initially, authorities interviewed convicted sex offenders within a 5-mile radius of Somer's suburban north Florida home, but didn't come up with any substantial leads.
On a hunch, they tailed nine garbage trucks from Somer's neighborhood to the landfill and picked through the trash as each rig spilled its load. They sorted through more than 225 tons of garbage before they spotted her legs sticking out of the garbage.
Harrell lived with his parents on a neighborhood street Somer took to get home. Police said Somer was lured into the home and later asphyxiated and tossed into a trash bin, though they have not released any more details about her death.
After Somer vanished, Harrell moved to Meridian, Miss., to live with an aunt.
He drew the attention of law enforcement two months before Somer disappeared, but he wasn't arrested. His roommates in Florida said they kicked him out for stealing and they discovered child pornography on his computer, which was turned over to investigators.
The Clay County sheriff's office said Harrell wasn't taken into custody then because detectives had to prove Harrell downloaded the child porn.
He only became a suspect in Somer's disappearance after Somer's friends showed officials where they had last seen Somer — the home with the dog. Also, the parents of one of Harrell's roommates drove by Harrell's parents' home and noticed how close it was to Somer's home. When they saw Harrell's car in his parents' driveway, they told detectives.
According to authorities, Harrell confessed to sexually molesting and killing Somer, then disposing of her body. DNA evidence found on Somer also linked Harrell to the crime.
Harrell pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, kidnapping, sexual battery, possession of child pornography and other sex charges, some stemming from an unrelated molestation case involving a 3-year-old relative. Authorities did not release details of that new case.
The discovery of Somer's body touched off an outpouring of support in northeast Florida and southern Georgia for the Thompson family; days of vigils and fundraisers were held so Somer's mom could financially afford to stay home with her other children. A mountain of stuffed animals, balloons and notes to the family sprung up near a tree across from the little girl's home.
Like most little girls, Somer loved to dance, play dress up, draw and color. Her favorite color was purple.
At her funeral, hundreds of purple balloons were released into the sky; purple flowers adorned her wooden casket and her family wore purple ribbons.
Somer had her brown hair in a ponytail with a red bow when she went missing. She was carrying a lunch box and wearing Hannah Montana backpack. It was purple.
"This will be that last breath that I waste and use on you. It is now time to take out the trash," Somer's mother said. "No punishment given to you will be good enough to soothe our spirit."

Occupy this: 5 Internet regulations we need to destroy

On January 18, millions of concerned Internet citizens and companies banded together to successfully combat the “Stop Online Piracy Act” (SOPA) and the “PROTECT IP Act” (PIPA), pieces of legislation that many believe could annihilate the Web as we know it. Thanks to this mass effort, those bills are now political poison, and have been shoved off the congressional agenda indefinitely.

Unfortunately, the victory over SOPA and PIPA revealed a cumbersome truth: The fight for a free and open Internet has only just begun, and will likely never end. Right this second, there are a number of potentially dangerous efforts, from governments around the globe, that could be as detrimental to our online world as SOPA and PIPA may have been (or could be in the future). And while many of these efforts specifically target foreign countries, the connected nature of the Internet means they concern us all. Here is a brief rundown of those efforts, and what you can do to push back.

Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA)

What it is: ACTA is a multi-lateral trade agreement, already signed by 31 governmental bodies from around that world (including the US, the European Union and 22 member states, Japan, Australia, and Canada, among others) that seeks to create international standards for the enforcement of intellectual property rights (in other words: broaden and expand them).

The agreement, which targets counterfeit goods, generic medicine, and copyright-protected online content, also creates an entirely new governing body, an “ACTA committee,” tasked with overseeing the implementation of intellectual property laws.
Why it’s a problem: The potential dangers of ACTA reach far and wide. But here are the primary points of contention: First, ACTA was negotiated in secret, meaning it “bypassed checks and balances of existing international IP norm-setting bodies [i.e. the World Trade Organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the United Nations], without any meaningful input from national parliaments, policymakers, or their citizens,” according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The lack of transparency surrounding the ACTA negotiations led Kader Arif, member of the European Parliament and appointed rapporteur, to quit on Tuesday in protest.
Second, ACTA gives nations’ custom authorities the power to confiscate physical or digital goods they believe are in violation of intellectual property law at their borders, even if the final destination of those goods is not the country where they are detained. In addition, copyrights holders themselves can request that border agents confiscate certain goods. This is particularly troublesome for the distribution of generic pharmaceutical drugs, such as medicine for HIV, to developing nations.
“The problem with ACTA is that, by focusing on the fight against violation of intellectual property rights in general, it treats a generic drug just as a counterfeited drug,” said Arif in an interview with the Guardian. “This means the patent holder can stop the shipping of the drugs to a developing country, seize the cargo and even order the destruction of the drugs as a preventive measure.”

Third, ACTA creates the overwhelming incentive for countries to enact stricter intellectual property laws, so that they are in accordance with international standards (as defined by ACTA itself). While pushing countries to create more severe intellectual property laws, ACTA does not create any incentive for the implementation of safety valves, like fair use or public domain (both of which exist in the US). Because of this, critics fear ACTA could usher in unprecedented limits on free speech, as more an more countries pass harsher and harsher intellectual property regulations.

Fourth: In the US, ACTA was signed as an “executive agreement,” not a “treaty.” This distinction allowed President Obama to sign ACTA without ratification by the Senate. The White House asserts that this means that, if ACTA becomes a binding part of international law (more on that later), then the US can simply ignore it. But a number of constitutional scholars (pdf), as well as Rep. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and other members of Congress, have questioned the constitutionality of this action. And many critics worry that by labeling ACTA an “executive agreement,” it sets a precedent for other treaties to fly under the radar of congressional scrutiny, and thus not be subjected to the disinfecting light of democratic transparency.
As you may have gathered, ACTA is a complex behemoth. And the list above is, by no means, complete; there are many more points of contention available in the fine print. To read more details about the problems surrounding ACTA see here, here, and here.

What you can do about it: While the text of ACTA is now set it stone, the treaty (aka executive agreement) must now be ratified through a vote by the European Parliament, which would put into full effect. If the European Parliament votes against ACTA, it could stop the treaty in its tracks. The best way to help ensure this outcome is to contact Members of the European Parliament. Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP or TPPA) What it is: Like ACTA, TPP is a trade agreement (unlike SOPA and PIPA, which are pieces of legislation) between the US and a variety of countries around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Peru, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam. Also like ACTA, intense secrecy surrounds the agreement, which means very little information about the exact contents of TPP are known to the public. What we do know — based on a copy of the intellectual property rights chapter of TPP, which was leaked last March — is that TPP would require signatories to adopt copyright laws that are equal to, or go beyond, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DCMA).
While intellectual property regulation is a large part of TPP, the agreement also covers other aspects of international trade, including dairy and beef production, and other agricultural issues.

Why it’s a problem: The foremost problem with TPP is that its details and negotiations are hidden from the public — the very people who will have to live under the rules outlined in the agreement. Second, TPP would force countries to adopt the same troublesome intellectual property laws that exist in the US, including criminal charges for infringers, Internet service provider (ISP) liability, full disconnection for repeat infringers, and penalties for circumventing “digital locks” (i.e. DRM). In many cases, this would require countries to re-write their copyright laws to match — or exceed — the laws of the US, without also including safe guards like fair use. That is to say, it removes individual nations’ abilities to make their own decisions about which copyright laws to adopt by forcing them to legislate above a threshold set by the US.

Other known problems with TPP include mandatory criminal sanctions for the reproduction of copyrighted works for non-commercial purposes, and the extension of copyright to the life of a creator plus 70 years after his/her death, and either 95 years after publication, or 120 years after creation, of corporate-owned copyrights.

What you can do about it: Unfortunately, there are far too few options for combating TPP. One highly-effective tactic is to contact your representatives, and demand transparency on TPP. Copyright Modernization Act (Bill C-11 – Canada) What it is: The Copyright Modernization Act, known widely as Bill C-11 (or just C-11), is Canada’s most recent piece of copyright legislation. The current text of C-11 is, for the moment, fairly mild, especially when compared to legislation like SOPA and PIPA. Positive parts of the bill include expansion of fair use, a provision that protects user-generated content, and other the expansion of consumer rights. Unfortunately, the music industry and other copyright maximalists are pushing to add more extreme measures to the bill.

Why it’s a problem: At present, the most contentious part of C-11 includes its provisions concerning digital locks, like DRM, which critics believe will thwart consumer rights protections, and castrate fair use policies. As mentioned, the music industry is currently lobbying Canada’s parliament to add some of the most problematic portions of SOPA/PIPA into C-11, including blocking websites accused of copyright infringement, and the targeting of any website that “engages in, enables, or facilitates” copyright infringement, which could include legitimate websites like YouTube. As with SOPA/PIPA, critics worry that the addition of these provisions could restrict free speech, and stifle innovation online due to the fear of lawsuits.

What you can do about it: The best way to fight C-11, or to push back against the music industry’s efforts to turn the bill into Canada’s SOPA, is to contact your MP. (This applies to Canadians only, sorry.) To find out who your representative is, click here. Remember, C-11 is still very much up in the air, and a nearly-identical bill was defeated in the recent past.

S.I. No. 337/2011 — European Communities (Copyrights and Related Rights) Regulations 2011 (“Ireland’s SOPA”) What it is: S.I. No. 337/2011, more commonly known as “Ireland’s SOPA,” is a piece of legislation that would allow Irish courts to require ISPs to fully block allegedly infringing sites (like The Pirate Bay). According to some interpretations, court orders could also be brought against a cornucopia of other “intermediaries,” including social networks, hosting providers, video hosting sites (like YouTube or Vimeo), or any site where infringing content is posted — even if those posting the content reside outside Ireland.
Why it’s a problem: Other than the details above — which are nearly identical to some of the most contentious parts of SOPA/PIPA (thus, “Ireland’s SOPA”) — the biggest problem is that the legislation is set to be enacted without any vote by the Irish Parliament. Instead, the law will be enacted by a “statutory instrument,” which can be carried out solely by Ireland’s junior minister, Sean Sherlock. In other words: The people have almost no say in whether or not this piece of legislation becomes law.

What you can do about it: The best way to fight back is to contact Sherlock (Twitter, email: sean.sherlock@oir.ie), senior minister Richard Bruton (email: minister@deti.ie), and your local TD (an Irish representative in Parliament). According to Irish legal expert TJ McIntyre, non-Irish citizens should also contact Sherlock, and tell him that the enactment of this bill lowers the world’s opinion of Ireland, and makes it a less attractive place to start an Internet business. Concerned citizens can also visit StopSOPAIreland.com, and sign their petition.

Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 (HR 1981) What it is: Introduced by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) — the chief sponsor of SOPA — last May, HR 1981 aims to curb the distribution of child pornography, and increases the possible penalties for doing so. It does this by amending “the federal criminal code to prohibit knowingly conducting in interstate or foreign commerce a financial transaction that will facilitate access to, or the possession of, child pornography,” according to the official summary of the bill. It also imposes “a fine and/or prison term of up to 20 years” for anyone found in possession of child pornography that depicts children under the age of 12. HR 1981 has already passed through the House Judiciary Committee (of which Rep. Smith is chairman), and currently has 39 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives.
Why it’s a problem: If passed into law, HR 1981 would require ISPs to track the Internet activity of all customers, and to store all collected online activity for a minimum of 18 months. That includes which websites you visit, who you connect with online, and even credit and debit card numbers. The legislation also allows law enforcement authorities to have access to the Internet history of anyone who is charged with any crime whatsoever — not just those charged with crimes related to child pornography. And all the police have to do to access this information is ask for it. No probable cause, no search warrant. Nothing. If HR 1981 passes, say goodbye to any remaining sliver of privacy you have online — it will no longer exist in any meaningful form.
In many ways, this is the most problematic government effort on this list, as it targets all Internet users in a very real, very specific way. The other actions listed above have serious problems, though many of them still wallow in the realm of speculation. HR 1981 is explicit in the ways in which it shreds individual privacy.
What you can do about it: First, contact your representative, and tell them you firmly oppose HR 1981, and will not vote for them in upcoming elections if they support the bill. (Find and contact your representative here.) It is especially important for voters whose representatives are listed as co-sponsors of the bill express their opposition. (Here is a list of HR 1981 co-sponsors.)

Second, just as SOPA had a companion bill in the Senate, so does HR 1981, in the form of S. 1308, which was introduced by Sen. Orin Hatch (R-UT). At present, S. 1308 has only four co-sponsors, but it is equally important to keep pressure on the Senate to not let this legislation gain any more traction. Finally, there are a number of organizations helping to push back against HR 1981. On Thursday, Demand Progress, one of the public advocacy groups instrumental in the fight against SOPA and PIPA, launched a petition against HR 1981, which more than 70,000 people have already signed. 'Jewish Indiana Jones' admits NY Torah fraud

NEW YORK (AP) — A Jewish charity co-founder who claimed he traveled the world as a "Jewish Indiana Jones" to rescue Torahs pleaded guilty to fraud charges Thursday, saying he lied when he claimed he had personally obtained vintage Torah scrolls in Europe and Israel for six years.

Menachem Youlus entered the plea to mail and wire fraud charges in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. Youlus is the owner of the Jewish Bookstore in Wheaton, Md., where he lives. A plea deal with prosecutors called for him to serve up to five years and three months in prison.
"I know what I did was wrong, and I deeply regret my conduct," Youlus, 50, said as he described the lies he told between 2004 and 2010 to obtain funds from his Save a Torah charity and some of its contributors.
Prosecutors said he defrauded the charity he founded and its donors out of $862,000.
The government said he fabricated detailed accounts of exploits to recover Torahs lost or hidden during the Holocaust, including at the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland and the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany.
During his plea, he said his lies included telling prospective buyers that he had personally retrieved parts of one scroll from a metal box at Auschwitz.
A criminal complaint said Youlus had distributed Torahs he bought from U.S. dealers to synagogues and congregations nationwide, sometimes at inflated rates. It said he put nearly a third of $1.2 million collected by the charity into his personal accounts, spending some of it on private school tuition for his children and on personal expenses, including meals and health care.
The publicly stated mission of the charity was to locate and acquire Torahs that survived the Holocaust or had been taken from Jewish communities worldwide and repair them so they could be used in communities that need them. But authorities said Youlus rarely traveled abroad during the years he had claimed to go Torah hunting.
At a 2004 Torah dedication, Youlus wrote: "I guess you could call me the Jewish Indiana Jones," the complaint said, referencing the action-adventure hero played by Harrison Ford in the 1981 Stephen Spielberg classic "Raiders of the Lost Ark."
In a statement, attorney Benjamin Brafman said he will seek leniency at a June 21 sentencing for Youlus, "a good man with the best of intentions who ultimately strayed into fraudulent conduct that he now accepts full responsibility for."

Jewish Houston Fire Department Captain Resigns Following Child Porn Charges

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – Houston Fire Department captain’s addiction to sex led him to roleplay in online chat rooms, carry on a cyber affair with a 14-year-old Wyoming girl and attempt suicide, according to probable cause documents released by the Harris County Assistant District Attorney’s Office.
Saul Abraham Fiszer is charged with three counts of child pornography possession after police searched his Toshiba laptop, which never left his side according to a police interview with his wife.
Two photos and a video file qualified for charges. The first photo depicts two young boys between 4- and 8-years old engaged in oral sex and a second photo of a nude girl – between 5- and 8-years old – in a sexually suggestive pose. The video shows a female, guessed to be younger than 13-years old, taking a shower.
“We, as a department, take these allegations very seriously,” Fire Chief Terry Garrison said in a statement Friday. “As a result of these allegations, I have opened up an Internal Affairs investigation that will run concurrently with HPD’s ongoing criminal investigation.”
Fiszer, an 18-year HFD veteran, began his career in April, 1994. He was assigned to station 21 on the “C” shift. Fiszer was relieved of duty with pay, pending the results of ongoing investigation. Just before 11 a.m. Friday morning, he signed resignation papers and is no longer employed by the Houston Fire Department, according to the statement.
Documents indicate that Fiszer’s wife thought he was a “sick man”. Just prior to his arrest, an officer spoke to Fiszer over the phone in an attempt to dissuade him from a suicide and wait for the department’s crisis team could respond and take him into custody.
Fiszer became increasingly suicidal after his wife confronted him about his alleged affair with the 14-year old.

The alleged victim, who is referred to as “Chelsea”, called him “Daddy”, according to documents.
Mrs. Fiszer’s saw a strange number that surfaced repeatedly in his cell phone log and contacted the girl and posed as her husband. She then called the police in the girl’s hometown in Casper, Wyo. and contacted the girl’s parents.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into the creation of an application that would allow it to better mine social media content, in an attempt to more accurately identify, target and fight “emerging threats” in real-time. The application could also be used to predict potential threats before they even happen.

According to a Request for Information (RFI) posted to the Federal Business Opportunities website, the FBI says it hopes to “determine the capability of industry to provide an Open Source and social media alert, mapping, and analysis application solution.” This tool would allow the FBI to “quickly vet, identify, and geo-locate breaking events, incidents and emerging threats” using “publicly available” information posted to social networks, like Facebook and Twitter, as well as local and national news publications.

Of course, monitoring social media is nothing new for the law enforcement community. At present, however, it’s simply too ineffectual and inefficient for the FBI’s needs.

“Social media is a valued source of information to the [FBI's Strategic Information and Operations Center (SIOC)] intelligence analyst in routinely monitoring events,” says the RFI. “Analysts have standing intelligence issues that they monitor as a matter of daily course around the globe. It is also seminal in their effort to provide initial information about single events of significance to law enforcement. Social media has become a primary source of intelligence because it has become the premier first response to key events and the primal alert to possible developing situations.”

The application the FBI hopes to have built would simply make this process easier and more thorough.
Here’s how the FBI envisions the app working: The information gathered from news and social media outlets would be overlaid onto a digital map, pinpointing the location of the “breaking events,” along with all other relevant contextual data. Additional information, including US domestic terror data, worldwide terror data, the location of all US embassies, consulates and military installations, weather conditions and forecasts, and traffic video feeds, would also be overlaid on the map.
A robust search feature would also be incorporated into the app, which would allow the ability to “instantly search and monitor key words and strings in ‘publicly available’ tweets across the Twitter Site and any other ‘publicly available social networking sites/forums,” according to the RFI. The FBI wants the search function to allow for simultaneous key word searches “that can look at 10 or 20 separate incidents/threats at the same time within the same ‘window.’” The ability to monitor tweets and other social media data in a minimum of 12 foreign languages, and to “immediately translate” those posts into English, is also outlined as a required feature of the application.
The future is now All of that seems fairly straight forward. In fact, we are surprised the FBI doesn’t already have such an application at their disposal, since all of the features it outlines are well within the capabilities of a skilled software development team. Not to mention the fact that much of what the FBI hopes to use already exists in different parts. Websites like OpenStatusSearch.com, YourOpenBook.org, TweetScan.com and Tweepz.com make it possible to quickly and easily search for key words being posted publicly to Twitter and Facebook. All the FBI’s dreamed-up app would do is combine these features into a single product, and expand them with additional governmental and law enforcement data, and mapping tools.
However, the FBI doesn’t just want to know about what’s happening now; it also wants to predict events that are about to happen — to predict the future. If that sounds suspiciously like Minority Report, you’re not alone.

“Social media will be critical to meeting the intelligence objectives stated above because it provides unique access to communications about the special event [i.e. political conventions, national holidays, or sporting events] in advance of its occurrence,” reads the RFI.

As with the ability to search tweets and updates, using social media to predict the future is nothing new. In March 2011, the Journal of Computational Science showed that tweets could be used to predict upcoming fluctuations of the Dow Jones Industrial Average to an accuracy of 86.7 percent. And just this month, the Rand Corporation analyzed tweets from 2009 that used the hashtag #IranElection, and found that an increase in swear words it tweets could be used to predict where and when protests and other forms of public discontent would occur.

Using predictive technology isn’t limited to academics, governments, or corporations, either. The website RecordTheFuture.com allows anyone with an account to access troves of information about potential upcoming events, including product releases, stock fluctuations, and even upcoming vacation plans of private individuals.
Is everyone a target? In other words, the worlds of Aldous Huxley and George Orwell have already arrived. The FBI simply wants to create a custom application that combines already-available technology, and streamlines it, in an attempt to do their job better. That’s all good and well when if it’s used to stop truly “bad guys,” like terrorists who want to blow up a football stadium. The problem is, who do they consider “bad guys” nowadays? Hackers like Anonymous? Wikileaks supporters? Occupy Wall Street protesters? Everyone?

The most cautious (and possibly wisest) among us would say all of the above. And it’s increasingly hard to refute their warnings. Late last year, President Obama signed the latest iteration of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a law that comes up for annual renewal. The problem with this year’s version, say critics, is that it includes provisions that would allow the US military to detain anyone — including US citizens — anywhere in the world, without trial or due process, if they are suspected of terrorist activities. Moreover, NDAA provides such an ambiguous definition of “terrorist activity” that groups like Occupy Wall Street or Anonymous could fall under this perilous category.

It must be pointed out that, President Obama included a signing statement with NDAA that guaranteed that his administration would not use the law to indefinitely detain US citizens. But that has done little to quell the cognizant public’s outrage.

So, what to make of all this? Most obviously, it is now painfully clear that everything we post online is being watched. And if the FBI gets its new application — which seems to us an inevitability — the eyes with which it sees our tweets and updates will have bionic vision, and even the ability to peer into the future. What is less obvious is how the government’s quest to protect the public good will be abused to trample legitimate free speech and lawful public dissent.

In short: Big Brother is real. He is watching. So be careful what you say online today — it could be used against you tomorrow.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2012^[1] was signed into United States law on December 31, 2011 by President Barack Obama.^[2]^[3]
The Act authorizes $662 billion ^[4] in funding, among other things "for the defense of the United States and its interests abroad." In a signing statement, President Obama described the Act as addressing national security programs, Department of Defense health care costs, counter-terrorism within the U.S. and abroad, and military modernization.^[5]^[6] The Act also imposes new economic sanctions against Iran (section 1045), commissions reviews of the military capabilities of countries such as Iran, China, and Russia,^[7] and refocuses the strategic goals of NATO towards energy security.^[8]
The most controversial provisions to receive wide attention are contained in Title X, Subtitle D, entitled "Counter-Terrorism." In particular, sub-sections 1021 and 1022, which deal with detention of persons the government suspects of involvement in terrorism, have generated controversy as to their legal meaning and their potential implications for abuse of Presidential authority. Although the White House^[9] and Senate sponsors^[10] maintain that the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) already grants presidential authority for indefinite detention, the Act states that Congress "affirms" this authority and makes specific provisions as to the exercise of that authority.^[11]^[12] The detention provisions of the Act have received critical attention by, among others, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and some media sources which are concerned about the scope of the President's authority, including contentions that those whom they claim may be held indefinitely could include U.S. citizens arrested on American soil, including arrests by members of the Armed Forces.[

Indefinite detention without trial: Section 1021

The detention sections of the NDAA begin by "affirm[ing]" that the authority of the President under the AUMF, a joint resolution passed in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, includes the power to detain, via the Armed Forces, any person "who was part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners," and anyone who commits a "belligerent act" against the U.S. or its coalition allies in aid of such enemy forces, under the law of war, "without trial, until the end of the hostilities authorized by the [AUMF]." The text authorizes trial by military tribunal, or "transfer to the custody or control of the person's country of origin," or transfer to "any other foreign country, or any other foreign entity."^[18]
Addressing previous conflict with the Obama Administration regarding the wording of the Senate text, the Senate-House compromise text, in sub-section 1021(d), also affirms that nothing in the Act "is intended to limit or expand the authority of the President or the scope of the Authorization for Use of Military Force." The final version of the bill also provides, in sub-section(e), that "Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States." As reflected in Senate debate over the bill, there is a great deal of controversy over the status of existing law.^[19].
An amendment to the Act that would have replaced current text with a requirement for executive clarification of detention authorities was rejected by the senate.^[20]

Requirement for military custody: Section 1022

All persons arrested and detained according to the provisions of section 1021, including those detained on U.S. soil, whether detained indefinitely or not, are required to be held by the United States Armed Forces. The law affords the option to have U.S. citizens detained by the armed forces but this requirement does not extend to them, as with foreign persons. Lawful resident aliens may or may not be required to be detained by the Armed Forces, "on the basis of conduct taking place within the United States.

Actions from the White House and Senate leading to the vote

In an executive statement to the Senate (11/17/11) President Obama expressed his administration's opposition to the provision as follows: "The Administration strongly objects to the military custody provision, which would appear to mandate military custody for a certain class of terrorism suspects... Moreover, applying this military custody requirement to individuals inside the United States, as some Members of Congress have suggested is their intention, would raise serious and unsettled legal questions and would be inconsistent with the fundamental American principle that our military does not patrol our streets." The White House threatened to veto the Senate version of the Act,^[9] arguing that while "the authorities granted by the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists, including the detention authority... are essential to our ability to protect the American people... (and) Because the authorities codified in this section already exist, the Administration does not believe codification is necessary and poses some risk."
During debate within the Senate and before the Act's passage, Senator Mark Udall introduced an amendment to strike subsection D from Title X and "At the end of section 1031, add the following: (f) Extension to United States Citizens and Lawful Resident Aliens.--The authority of the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons under this section extends to citizens of the United States and lawful resident aliens of the United States, except to the extent prohibited by the Constitution of the United States." The amendment was rejected by a vote of 60-38 (with 2 abstaining).^[23] Udall subsequently voted for the Act in the joint session of congress that passed it, and though he remained "extremely troubled" by the detainee provisions, he promised to "push Congress to conduct the maximum amount of oversight possible." ^[24]
The Senate later adopted by a 98 to 1 vote a compromise amendment, based upon a proposal by Senator Dianne Feinstein, which preserves current law concerning U.S. citizens and lawful resident aliens detained within the United States.^[25] After a Senate-House compromise text explicitly ruled out any limitation of the President's authorities, but also removed the requirement of military detention for terrorism suspects arrested in the United States, the White House issued a statement saying that it would not veto the bill.^[26]
While Senator Feinstein and others have argued that current law does not allow the indefinite detention of American citizens, the Obama Administration, Senators Carl Levin and John McCain have argued that it may still allow it.^[10] In his Signing Statement, President Obama explained: “"I have signed the Act chiefly because it authorizes funding for the defense of the United States and its interests abroad, crucial services for service members and their families, and vital national security programs that must be renewed . . . I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists."

Controversy over indefinite detention

Section 1021 and 1022 have been called a violation of constitutional principles and of the Bill of Rights.^[28] Internationally, the UK-based newspaper The Guardian has described the legislation as allowing indefinite detention "without trial [of] American terrorism suspects arrested on US soil who could then be shipped to Guantánamo Bay;"^[29] Al Jazeera has written that the Act "gives the US military the option to detain US citizens suspected of participating or aiding in terrorist activities without a trial, indefinitely."^[30] The official Russian international radio broadcasting service Voice of Russia has been highly critical of the legislation, writing that under its authority "the US military will have the power to detain Americans suspected of involvement in terrorism without charge or trial and imprison them for an indefinite period of time;" it has furthermore written that "the most radical analysts are comparing the new law to the edicts of the 'Third Reich' or 'Muslim tyrannies.'"^[31] The Act was strongly opposed by the ACLU, Amnesty International, Human Rights First, and Human Rights Watch, and was criticized in editorials published in The New York Times^[32] and elsewhere.^[33]^[34]

On December 31 and after signing the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 into law, President Obama issued a statement on it that addressed "certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of terrorism suspects." In the statement Obama maintains that "the legislation does nothing more than confirm authorities that the Federal courts have recognized as lawful under the 2001 AUMF. I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. [...] My Administration will interpret section 1021 in a manner that ensures that any detention it authorizes complies with the Constitution, the laws of war, and all other applicable law. [...] As my Administration has made clear, the only responsible way to combat the threat al-Qa'ida poses is to remain relentlessly practical, guided by the factual and legal complexities of each case and the relative strengths and weaknesses of each system. Otherwise, investigations could be compromised, our authorities to hold dangerous individuals could be jeopardized, and intelligence could be lost. I will not tolerate that result, and under no circumstances will my Administration accept or adhere to a rigid across-the-board requirement for military detention."^[35]

[edit] Legal arguments that the legislation does not allow the indefinite detention of US citizens

Mother Jones has written that the Act "is the first concrete gesture Congress has made towards turning the homeland into the battlefield," arguing that "codifying indefinite detention on American soil is a very dangerous step." The magazine has nevertheless contested claims by The Guardian and The New York Times that the Act "allows the military to indefinitely detain without trial American terrorism suspects arrested on US soil who could then be shipped to Guantánamo Bay," writing that "they're simply wrong... It allows people who think the 2001 Authorization to Use Military Force against the perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks gives the president the authority to detain US citizens without charge or trial to say that, but it also allows people who can read the Constitution of the United States to argue something else."^[36] As legal commentator Joanne Mariner pointed out in an article in Verdict, the scope of existing detention power under the AUMF is "subject to vociferous debate and continuing litigation."^[37] In the years that followed the September 11 attacks, the AUMF was interpreted to allow the indefinite detention of both citizens and non-citizens arrested far from any traditional battlefield, including in the United States.
Other legal commentators argue that the NDAA does not permit truly "indefinite" detention, given that the period of detention is limited by the duration of the armed conflict. In making this claim, they emphasize the difference between (1) detention pursuant to the "laws of war" and (2) detention pursuant to domestic criminal law authorities.^[38] David Rivkin and Lee Casey, for example, argue that detention under the AUMF is authorized under the laws of war and is not indefinite because the authority to detain ends with the cessation of hostilities. They argue that the NDAA invokes "existing Supreme Court precedent . . . that clearly permits the military detention (and even trial) of citizens who have themselves engaged in hostile acts or have supported such acts to the extent that they are properly classified as 'combatants' or 'belligerents.'" This reflects the fact that, in their view, the United States is, pursuant to the AUMF, at war with al-Qaeda, and detention of enemy combatants in accordance with the laws of war is authorized. In their view, this does not preclude trial in civilian courts, but it does not require that the detainee be charged and tried. If the detainee is an enemy combatant who has not violated the laws of war, he is not chargeable with any triable offense. Commentators who share this view emphasize the need not to blur the distinction between domestic criminal law and the laws of war. ^[39] ^[40]

[edit] Legal arguments that the legislation allows indefinite detention

The American Civil Liberties Union has responded that despite claims by the Obama Administration to the contrary, "The statute contains a sweeping worldwide indefinite detention provision... [without] temporal or geographic limitations, and can be used by this and future presidents to militarily detain people captured far from any battlefield." The ACLU furthermore commented that "While President Obama issued a signing statement saying he had 'serious reservations' about the provisions, the statement only applies to how his administration would use the authorities granted by the NDAA," and maintains that "the breadth of the NDAA’s detention authority violates international law because it is not limited to people captured in the context of an actual armed conflict as required by the laws of war."^[41]

As part of the ongoing dispute over Iranian uranium enrichment, section 1245 of the NDAA imposes unilateral sanctions against the Central Bank of Iran, effectively blocking Iranian oil exports to countries which do business with the United States.^[42]^[43] The new sanctions impose penalties against entities — including corporations and foreign central banks — which engage in transactions with the Iranian central bank. Sanctions on transactions unrelated to petroleum take effect 60 days after the bill is signed into law, while sanctions on transactions related to petroleum take effect a minimum of six months after the bill's signing.^[43] The bill grants the U.S. President authority to grant waivers in cases in which petroleum purchasers are unable, due to supply or cost, to significantly reduce their purchases of Iranian oil, or in which American national security is threatened by implementation of the sanctions.^[43]^[44] Following the signing into law of the NDAA, the Iranian rial fell significantly against the U.S. dollar, reaching a record low two days after the bill's enactment, a change widely attributed to the expected impact of the new sanctions on the Iranian economy.^[45]^[46]^[47]^[48] Officials within the Iranian government have threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, an important passageway for Middle East oil exports, should the U.S. press forward with the new sanctions, as planned

Obama and Emanuel: Members of same gay bath house in Chicago

President Obama and his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel are lifetime members of the same gay bath house in uptown Chicago, according to informed sources in Chicago’s gay community, as well as veteran political sources in the city.
The bath house, Man’s Country, caters to older white men and it has been in business for some 30 years and is known as one of uptown Chicago’s “grand old bathhouses.” WMR was told by sources who are familiar with the bath house that it provides one-year “lifetime” memberships to paying customers and that the club’s computerized files and pre-computer paper files, include membership information for both Obama and Emanuel. The data is as anonymized as possible for confidentiality purposes. However, sources close to “Man’s Country” believe the U.S. Secret Service has purged the computer and filing cabinet files of the membership data on Obama and Emanuel.
Members of Man’s Country are also issued club identification cards. WMR learned that Obama and Emanuel possessed the ID cards, which were required for entry.
Obama began frequenting Man’s Country in the mid-1990s, during the time he transitioned from a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School to his election as an Illinois State Senator in 1996. Emanuel, reportedly joined Man’s Country after he left the Clinton White Hosue and moved back to Chicago in 1998, joining the investment firm of Wasserstein Perella and maintaining his membership during his 2002 campaign for the U.S. 5th District House seat vacated by Rod Blagojevich, who was elected governor.
Man’s Country appears to be a “one stop shopping” center for gay men. The club’s website advertises steam rooms, “fantasy rooms,” bed rooms, male strippers, adult movies, and lockers.
However, Man’s Country was not the only location for Obama’s predatory gay sex activities. The Chicago gay community is aware that Obama often made contacts with younger men at his famous “pick-up basketball” games. It was at these “pick up” matches where Obama first met Emanuel and a young Democratic campaign worker and senior bank vice president named Alexi Giannoulias. Currently running for Obama’s old U.S. Senate seat now occupied by Roland Burris, Giannoulias successfully ran for Illinois Treasurer in 2006 after being drafted for the run by Chicago’s Democratic machine.

Giannoulias was a vice president and senior loan officer for his father’s bank, Broadway Bank, from 2002 to 2006. Broadway Bank made real estate loans to Antoin “Tony” Rezko, the chief of Rezmar Corporation. On May 13, 2008, Rezko was found guilty, after being indicted by a grand jury at the behest of the U.S. Attorney for Northern Illinois Patrick J. Fitzgerald, of six counts of wire fraud, six counts of mail fraud, two counts of corrupt solicitation, and two counts of money laundering. Rezko has been in solitary confinement at the Metropolitan Detention Center at Van Buren and Clark in Chicago since June 2008. However, Rezko has not yet been officially sentenced to a federal prison. A Syrian-American, Rezko is considered to be a flight risk, even though his one-time fortune of $50 million has been reduced to zero.
One Republican politician in Chicago told WMR that Rezko will be a prime witness for Blagojevich’s defense. “Figure it this way, Rezko’s been in solitary confinement in the city jail since June 0f 2008 . . . if he is released to appear at Blagojevich’s trial as the primary witness, everyone expects him to squeal like a pig,” said the Republican politico.
In 2005, Rezko reportedly engaged in a complicated real estate “flip” through which his wife Rita and Obama agreed to split an empty lot adjoining a home that Obama bought in Chicago’s Kenwood district. The deal saw Obama buy the home for $1.65 million, which was $300,00 below market value. Obama then bought a strip of the adjoining property from Mrs. Rezko, a speculative deal that stood to make Obama a handsome profit. Since Rezko’s conviction, the property has has reportedly gone into bankruptcy. Giannoulias’s Broadway Bank was seized by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation on April 23, 2010, reportedly as Secretary of Treasury Tim Geithner was on his way to Chicago to present the bank with a bailout check. Geithner quickly changed his plans.
Giannoulias, Broadway’s then-senior loan officer, has denied being involved in the decision to loan money to Rezko.
Last month, Blagojevich’s trial judge, U.S. District Court judge James Zagel, a crony of former Illinois Republican Governor Jim Thompson, ruled that all 500 hours of phone calls intercepted and taped by Fitzgerald could not be played during Blagojevich’s trial as demanded by Blagojevich and his defense lawyers. Blagojevich demanded that Fitzgerald “show up in court and explain to everybody . . . why you don’t want those tapes that you made played in court.”
WMR has learned that the tapes may contain salty references Obama’s and Emanuel’s private lives.
WMR attempted to interview Blagojevich’s senior defense lawyer Sam Adam to no avail but other informed sources told us that the tapes, if played, would highlight the corruption of not only Obama, Emanuel, and other member of Obama’s Chicago “brain trust” but also Fitzgerald himself. WMR was told that Fitzgerald’s tactics have included providing sex and drugs to imprisoned felons to get them to provide perjured testimony at federal trials.
It is exactly the type of federal prosecutorial misconduct by Fitzgerald that former Republican Governor said was used by state prosecutors when he commuted the death sentences of Illinois’s death row population. Ryan was indicted by Fitzgerald for fraud and he is currently serving out a federal prison sentence.
Blagojevich’s trial is scheduled to begin on June 3 and Fitzgerald’s main interest is to keep the trial focused on Blagojevich, especially after he managed to “flip” Blagojevich’s former chief of staff John Harris to testify against the impeached and ousted governor. WMR learned from informed sources that one lawyer on Harris’s defense team is involved in a gay partner scandal that was discovered by the attorney’s wife.
Some of the wiretaps may reveal that it was not Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s longtime friend and current White House policy adviser who was Obama’s top candidate to fill his U.S. Senate seat, but the young 32-year old “pick up basketball” friend of Obama, Giannoulias, then serving his second year as state Treasurer. However, Obama has avoided campaigning for Giannoulias in Illinois and there are indications that the president has “thrown Giannoulias under the bus,” according to some Democratic political circles in Chicago.
Mutiple Chicago sources report that Republicans who see Giannoulias’s Obama connections as providing an edge in his Senate race this year should not celebrate prematurely. Giannoulias’s GOP opponent, U.S. Representative Mark Kirk, a Naval Reserve intelligence officer, has also been identified as a closeted gay man. Kirk divorced his wife last year after an eight-year marriage. They had no children.
In addition, U.S. Representative Aaron Shock, who took over the House seat vacated by Obama’s Republican Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, is, according to Chicago Boy’s Town sources, a habitué of Minibar, a noted gay bar in Chicago’s gay district. After revealing details of the encounter at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, Sinclair was arrested by Washington Metropolitan Police on a fugitive warrant issued by Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, the son of Obama’s vice presidential running mate, Senator Joe Biden. Sinclair was charged with a misdemeanor count of theft of money orders, however, the state of Delaware declined prosecution. Beau Biden later declined to run for his father’s old Senate seat because of his duties to prosecute a major pedophilia case involving Lewes, Delaware pediatrician Dr. Earl Bradley. There are reports that Biden’s office helped to cover up Bradley’s activities, including failing to authorize search warants for Bradley’s office and computer.
Chicago’s “DLC” — not the Democratic Leadership Council but the “Down Low Club” — a gay matchmaking service
WMR spoke to several well-placed sources in Chicago who reported that Jeremiah Wright, the pastor of Obama’s former church of 20 years, Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) on Chicago’s south side, ran what was essentially a matchmaking service for gay married black professional members of the church, including lawyers and businessmen, particularly those with children. The matchmaking club was called the “Down Low Club” but references to it over the phone and email simply referred to the group with the code phrase “DLC.” The ruse, according to our sources, was to make anyone who was eavesdropping on the communications believe that the references were to the Democratic Leadership Council, also known as the DLC.
The gay DLC’s services were intended to keep ensure TUCC’s gay members avoided posting solicitations on web services like Craig’s List and refrain from cruising gay bars. The strategy was to protect them from getting busted and being “outed.”
Among the members of the gay “DLC” were Obama and TUCC’s choir director, Donald Young, an openly gay man who reportedly had a sexual relationship with Obama. Two other gay members of the church were Larry Bland and Nate Spencer. Young and Bland were brutally murdered, execution style, in late 2007. Bland was murdered on November 17, 2007 and Young on December 24, 2007. The latter was killed by multiple gunshot wounds. Spencer reportedly died on December 26, 2007, official cause of death: “septicemia, pneumonia, and HIV.”
“DLC” members often went on camping trips arranged by TUCC. Wright reportedly was the head of the “DLC” matchmaking services and ensured that its members protected each other.
The “DLC’s” clientele included Obama and other gay members of TUCC, including, reportedly Young, Bland, and Spencer. Fox 32 Chicago reported that Bland’s mother, Josephine Bland, was so upset at her son inviting men into their home as a result of contacting them through gay web sites like “Adam4Adam,” she moved out.
The gay community in Chicago knows to keep away from the TUCC and “DLC” stories because of the “creepiness” of the operation and the suspicious deaths of the three TUCC gay black men.
Although Obama protected his alternate life style through the secretiveness of the “DLC,” he was not so careful when he proclaimed he was a state senator while frolicking at Man’s Country in uptown Chicago.

Love: Obama’s personal trainer
Reggie Love, a former Duke basketball and football player and unsuccessful National Basketball hopeful, currently serves as Obama’s personal trainer and White House “special assistant” — he has been called Obama’s “body man” — who receives a salary of $104,000 a year. Love is also reportedly one of Obama’s regular gay sex partners. Love joined Obama’s Senate staff in a senior staff position in 2006.
Media General’s tabloid, the National Enquirer, proffered a story last year about Michelle Obama being furious about the relationship between her husband and his “body man.” TheEnquirer’s sister tabloid, The Globe, later floated a story about Obama having a relationship with a Democratic campaign official named Vera Baker. WMR has been told that this relationship was a clever ruse to throw off speculation about Obama’s actual past sex partners. Baker has apparently left the United States for relatively more obscurity in Martinique. Media General’s tabloids have scooped the mainstream media on sex scandals involving Bill Clinton and Gennifer Flowers and Monica Lewinsky, Tiger Woods, and John Edwards and Rielle Hunter.
WMR’s Chicago sources believe the Secret Service records of presidential candidate Obama’s activities in Chicago would show that Obama regularly arrived at Love’s Chicago residence at 9:00 am and departed at 9:15 am. Sources told WMR that while 15 minutes is much too short for a personal training exercise, it is ample time for fellatio.
Bill Frist, “Brokeback Mountain,” and Obama
In 2006, after Obama became the junior senator from Illinois, WMR’s sources in the Congressional Black Caucus reported that there were persistent rumors of gay trysts between Obama and then-GOP Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee. The allegations at the time seemed unbelievable.
However, based on Obama’s penchant for receiving fellatio from older white men, a column written by The Washington Post’s “In the Loop” columnist Al Kamen on April 7, 2006, some four months into Obama’s Senate term, may have expanded relevance. Kamen reported he received an invitation to attend Frist’s “5th Annual VOLPAC ’06 Weekend” in Nashville from April 21st to 23rd and that the invitation card required one to “unbuckle the cowboy’s pants and look inside to see what this was all about.” Kamen opined that the invitation seemed “a bit too ‘Brokeback Mountain.’”
The invitation advertised that the shindig would feature “one-of-a-kind music and special friends,” although Kamen said there was no indication what made the “friends” so “special.” Kamen then wrote, “The back of the card shows the cowboy from behind with a red flowered handkerchief sticking out of his right pocket. Wait a minute — wasn’t there something about how this used to be some kind of code in the gay community years ago? A way to signal each other in crowded, noisy bars? So we checked the GayCityUSA.com’s Hanky Codes. Sure enough, there it was in the chart explaining what they mean: red hanky in right pocket. Oh, dear.”

Rumors about Obama and Frist ran amok in Congressional Black Caucus circles in 2006.
Although Frist ran on the pledge of only serving two terms, he became Senate Majority Leader with all the perks of the office. WMR’s sources in Chicago’s gay community revealed that Frist’s Majority Leader predecessor, Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi, was also known to seek the services of male prostitutes. Frist, who said he planned to run for President in 2006, decided against a run for the White House and also declined a run for Tennessee governor in 2010.
With the rumor mill running at full speed in 2006, it is obvious why Frist abandoned politics so quickly for the medical business. Frist later endorsed Obama’s health care proposals. A year later, when GOP Senator Larry Craig was arrested while soliciting for sex in a men’s toilet stall at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, he changed his mind about immediately resigning his Senate seat. Knowing about his colleagues’ behavior, he dug in his heels and completed his term in January 2009.

Racial Comrades: I'm going to relate a true story to you today; the "moral" of the story is for YOU to judge.

A few days ago, I met one of the people whom I used to work with for 25 years, and he was relating to me about the folks I knew and how they were getting on.

It seems that so many have left, and or retired - one guy who was the head of maintenance - a guy who was a total company-man, and to be honest I never really liked because of the manner that he treated the people in his ( non-union ) department, had retired...and died.

The story I got was this - "Bob" had finally took an early retirement, and moved up-north to a big condominium on the Great Lake, he had a big fancy cabin-cruiser boat, snow-mobiles, a new truck - ALL the "toys". Yep, for all appearances, "Bob" really "had it made". For "Bob" - life was "GREAT"! The total "American Dream".

Well, "Bob" had something else along with all his wealth and toys.... Now, "Bob" was a 100% Blue-Blooded CON-SERVATIVE - with the proverbial touch of that "racist attitude" that was more snobbish than pragmatically scientific. He also "looked down" on his economically challenged fellow Whites as well. I'm sure many of you know the type.

Well, six months after he moved up north, to retire in style - "Bob" found out that he had CANCER. Now "Bob" hadn't had time to get set up with insurance since he left work, and with a "pre-existing condition" NOBODY wanted to handle him...

Long story short - to pay all these expensive "procedures" out of pocket - "Bob" LOST his "toys" one by one. Lost his fancy beach property, and wound-up dying, living alone with his wife, in a rented apartment above someone’s garage. Sad isn't it? I mean it.

You would think that in America, this nation would have been among the first, if NOT the FIRST - to have a NATIONAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM to provide healthcare to its citizens!

But, along with Old "Bob" - so many people, think that THAT its - "communistic", or "socialistic" therefore UN-AMERICAN!? What the hell!

It’s FINE to spend BILLIONS on FOREIGN-AID all over the planet. It’s A-OK to waste BILLIONS on WARS to make the world safe for JUDEO-CAPITALIST EXPLOITATION, and to MAKE billionaires MORE billions in this corrupt "Military Industrial Complex" as President Eisenhower described it back in the 50's. Jewish Leaders, Authorities Meeting To Discuss Security In Wake Of Recent Attacks In Bergen County

RUTHERFORD, NJ (CBSNewYork) – Members of Bergen County’s Jewish community will meet with law enforcement officials tonight following Wednesday’s firebombing of a synagogue in Rutherford as well as other recent targeted bias crimes in Hackensack, Maywood and Paramus.
The firebombing of Rabbi Nosson Schuman’s residence marks the fourth hate crime targeted at a Jewish center in the past month.

This is certainly a hate crime, this is certainly a bias crime,” said Bergen County prosecutor John Molinelli. ”This is aggravated arson, but most importantly, we’re now looking on this as an attempted homicide.”
Police believe at least two people hurled several Molotov cocktails and lit aerosol canisters into Schuman’s bedroom window. They melted the blinds and lit his bed on fire where he and his wife were sleeping.
“We just woke up to flames roaring through my window and my quilt caught fire,” said Schuman.

“I ran to get the kids, started screaming then got my father-in-law in the attic,” said his wife Pessy Schuman.
This was just the latest in a string of attacks against Bergen County’s Jewish community.
In Dec. of last year, vandals left messages of hate and painted three swastikas on Temple Beth El in Hackensack. A week earlier in Maywood, swastikas were painted on the sidewalk and on the ramp of a temple.
Rabbi Chaim Shapiro, whose Paramus synagogue was attacked last week, says members aren’t scared.
“I’m not asking anyone to be alarmed by this,” he said. “I’m asking people to have a much higher level of awareness.”
Prosecutors now want to know if these crimes are connected and leaders in the Jewish community are ready to tighten security.
The Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey will conduct a security briefing with the prosecutor’s office, police and even New Jersey’s Department of Homeland Security to develop a plan to help prevent future attacks.

Court: Oklahoma can't enforce Sharia law ban

DENVER (Reuters) - A federal appeals court upheld an injunction against a voter-approved ban on Islamic law in Oklahoma on Tuesday, saying it likely violated the U.S. Constitution by discriminating against religion.

A three-member panel of the Denver-based U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that the rights of plaintiff Muneer Awad, a Muslim man living in Oklahoma City, likely would be violated if the ban on Sharia law takes effect.

The decision upholds the ruling of a lower federal court.

"While the public has an interest in the will of the voters being carried out ... the public has a more profound and long-term interest in upholding an individual's constitutional rights," the appeals court said in a 37-page written decision.

The Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations welcomed the ruling, calling it "a victory for the Constitution and for the right of all Americans to freely practice their faith."

Oklahoma's "Save Our State Amendment," which was approved by 70 percent of state voters in 2010, bars Oklahoma state courts from considering or using Sharia law.

The lawsuit challenging the measure was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of Awad, who is director of the Oklahoma chapter of CAIR.

A federal judge in Oklahoma City issued a court order in November 2010 barring the measure from taking effect while the case is under review, finding a substantial likelihood that Awad would prevail on the merits.
The Council said the Oklahoma amendment is among 20 similar proposed laws introduced in state legislatures nationwide.
Defenders of the amendment say they want to prevent foreign laws in general, and Islamic Sharia law in particular, from overriding state or U.S. laws.
But foes of the Oklahoma measure, also called State Question 755, have argued that it stigmatizes Islam and its adherents and violates the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment prohibition against the government favoring one religion over another.

State Senator Anthony Sykes, one of the measure's sponsors, called the decision an attempt "to silence the voice of 70 percent of Oklahoma voters. At some point we have to decide whether this is a country of, by and for the judges, or of, by and for the people."

Opponents also say it could nullify wills or legal contracts between Muslims because they incorporate by reference specific elements of Islamic prophetic traditions.

Ex-GI charged with trying to aid Somalia’s Shabab

A former U.S. Army veteran who had done earlier tours in Iraq and South Korea faced charges Monday that he had tried to enlist with Somalia's al-Shabab terrorist group. Craig Benedict Baxam, a 24-year-old Army vet trained in intelligence and cryptology, allegedly flew to Africa to join up with al-Shabab and provide the group with material support, according to the charges filed against him in a Greenbelt, Md., courtroom.
Baxam had been "surfing the Internet from his Army base in South Korea last summer when he came across an Islamic religious website," the Baltimore Sun's Matthew Hay Brown reported Tuesday. Baxam--who comes from Laurel, Md.--returned to his home state after he'd secretly converted to Islam at the end of his deployment in South Korea. At that point, Brown writes, he "began to make plans to live out his life in a land governed by Sharia law. He would never make it."
Late last month, Baxam cashed in his $3500 Army retirement savings and bought a plane ticket to Kenya. Soon after his arrival, he was pulled off a bus near Mombasa after a seat-mate had inquired about his plans. Kenyan police turned over Baxam to the FBI office in Nairobi, and he "was arrested upon his return to Maryland last week," Brown wrote.
"In an affidavit filed earlier Monday, FBI Special Agent John B. Phillips III said Baxam considered it his duty to undertake his hijra, or migration to a Muslim land," Brown wrote. "Phillips said Baxam was carrying between $600 and $700 when he was pulled off a bus and arrested outside Mombasa, Kenya. He said Baxam planned to offer the money to al-Shabaab, to join the group and to take up arms to defend it from the United States, if necessary."
Baxam, a 2005 graduate of Laurel High School, "joined the Army in 2007 and completed eight months of advanced training in cryptology and intelligence at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas," Brown wrote. He deployed to Iraq in 2008, and to South Korea in 2010 for a one-year tour.
It was in Korea only "days before his separation from the Army" that Baxam secretly converted to Islam, Brown wrote. "He was afraid to search for al-Shabaab from his home computer, Phillips said, 'because he is aware of the capabilities of the United States government,' " Brown wrote. Before heading to Baltimore airport Dec. 20, Baxam destroyed his computer, Phillips said.
At his arraignment hearing Monday, Baxam, dressed in a "white robe, a thick black beard and sandals," replied "yes" to the judge's questions whether he understood the charge against him, Brown said. He could face a maximum sentence of 15 years.

On the morning of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, along with a million other readers of the New York Times including many who would never be able to read the paper again, I opened its pages to be confronted by a color photo showing a middle-aged couple holding hands and affecting a defiant look at the camera. The article was headlined in an irony that could not have been more poignant, "No Regrets For A Love Of Explosives." The couple pictured were Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, former leaders of the 1960s' Weather Underground, America's first terrorist cult. One of their bombing targets, as it happened, was the Pentagon.

While Ayers and Dohrn, who, in July, 1969, traveled to Cuba and met with representatives of the North Vietnamese and Cuban governments, may be thought of in Hyde Park as local activists, they're better known nationally as two of the most notorious -- and unrepentant -- figures from the violent fringe of the 1960s anti-war movement. These two domestic terrorists have written and spoken at length about their pasts -- their bombings and robberies -- and today he is an advocate for progressive education and a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago; she's an associate professor of law at Northwestern University.

William (Bill) Ayers went underground with several comrades after their co-conspirators' bomb accidentally exploded on March 6, 1970, destroying a Greenwich Village townhouse and killing three members of the Weather Underground (Ted Gold, Terry Robbins, and Diana Oughton, who was Ayers' girlfriend at the time). He and his colleagues invented identities and traveled continuously. They avoided the police and FBI, while bombing high-profile government buildings including; the United States Capitol, The Pentagon, and the Harry S. Truman Building housing the State Department. Living underground, Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn raised two children, Zayd and Malik, (Muslim names) before turning themselves in in 1981, when most charges were dropped because of what Ayers described as "extreme governmental misconduct" during the long search for the fugitives.

Dohrn served seven months in a NYC federal jail in 1983 for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating the Brinks robbery of 1981, in which two policemen and a security guard were killed.

Dohrn worked in a baby boutique in 1979 where stolen customer ID's were used to rent trucks used in the series of robberies culminating in the 1981 slaughter in which 9 kids lost their fathers, the youngest of which was six-months.

Because of the criminal convictions Dohrn, who received a law degree from the University of Chicago in 1967, was refused admission to the New York bar.

Nonetheless, she was hired as a legal clerk by Sidley and Austin, a major Chicago law firm, in their New York office in 1984. Howard Trienens, then managing partner of the firm, recently told the Chicago Tribune that he arranged the hiring of Dohrn as a favor to his fellow Northwestern University trustee and classmate, Tom Ayers. Tom Ayers' firm, Commonwealth Edison, has used Sidley as outside counsel for many years. She later worked in their Chicago office when she and Bill Ayers moved back to Chicago in 1987. She left Sidley in 1988.

One of the best known contacts between Obama and Ayers was when the couple hosted a "meet and greet" for Obama at Ayers house in Hyde Park -– an upper middle class neighborhood on Chicago's south side, where Obama now lives as a neighbor of Louis Farrakhan.

Update: In 1989, Obama was a summer intern at Michelle Obama's law firm. One of Michelle's co-workers was Bernadine Dohrn. So the relationship between the Obamas and Ayers has spanned twenty years.

"I can remember being one of a small group of people who came to Bill Ayers' house to learn that Alice Palmer was stepping down from the senate and running for Congress," said Dr. Quentin Young, a prominent Chicago physician and advocate for single-payer health care, of the informal gathering at the home of Ayers and his wife, Dohrn. "[Palmer] identified [Obama] as her successor."

A Chicago-based blogger named Maria Warren -- whose writing suggested she was to the left of Obama -- recalled watching the candidate give a "standard, innocuous little talk" in 1995, in the Ayers' living room when Obama was running for the state Senate.

"They were launching him," Warren wrote, "introducing him to the Hyde Park community as the best thing since sliced bread."

Ayers and Dohrn are simply the most visible of the far left supporters who propelled Barack Obama's early political career. The woman who touted Obama at the Ayers meeting, Alice Palmer, was herself a far left activist who was into community organizing like Obama.

Wondering whether the three may have crossed paths is not speculation. It is a fact that in 1989, Bernadine Dohrn and Michelle Obama were associates at the Chicago law firm of Sidley & Austin, when Obama joined the firm as a summer intern.

Barack also was essentially an employee of Bill Ayers for eight years, starting in 1995, the year the Chicago Annenberg Challenge was created to raise funds to help reform the Chicago public schools. One of the architects of the Challenge was none other than Professor Bill Ayers. Ayers co-wrote the initial grant proposal and proudly lists himself on his own website as the co-founder of the Challenge.

And who did William Ayers, co-creator of the Challenge, help select as the new director of the board for this program? Why, Barack Obama, of course. Obama was the first Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.

Obama served on the board for eight years until the Challenge ended in 2003. Bill Ayers was intimately involved in the Challenge over this same time period, raising and spending at least $110 million in an effort to bolster a "radical" (Ayers' word) reform program in the Chicago Public Schools from 1994 to 2001.

In November 1997, Ayers and Obama participated in a panel at the University of Chicago entitled "Should a child ever be called a 'super predator?'" to debate "the merits of the juvenile justice system."

In April 2002, Ayers, Dohrn, and Obama, then an Illinois State Senator, participated together at a conference entitled "Intellectuals: Who Needs Them?" sponsored by The Center for Public Intellectuals and the University of Illinois-Chicago. Ayers and Obama were two of the six members of the "Intellectuals in Times of Crisis" panel. Here is the agenda.

"I know they are friends," said Dr. Young of Obama and Ayers.

Ayers is the Board Chairman of the nonprofit Woods Fund of Chicago and Obama was a Board member. Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund's website.

The Woods Fund focused on welfare reform, affordable housing, the quality of public schools, race and class disparities in the juvenile justice system, and tax policy as a tool in reducing poverty. The Fund supported the concept of an expanding welfare state allocating ever-increasing amounts of money to the public school system, and the redistribution of wealth via taxes.

Obama always describes his relationship with Ayers as casual, but a close, working relationship spanning eight years is hardly casual -- especially an employer-employee relationship.

Beyond that, it was Ayers who brought Obama to Chicago.

According to The Nation: "The Woods Fund, in many ways, is responsible for helping start Obama as an organizer and shaping his political identity. In 1985 the foundation gave a $25,000 grant to the Developing Communities Project (aka the "DCP"), which hired Obama, at 24, as an organizer on Chicago's economically depressed South Side."

The Woods Fund was founded by the Woods family which owned the Illinois-based Sahara Coal Company, a major supplier of coal from its mines to major Illinois power companies. Commonwealth Edison, the giant Chicago-based electric power company was headed by Thomas Ayers, father of Bill Ayers.

The problem of Barack Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers will not go away. Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn were terrorists for the notorious Weather Underground during the turbulent 1960s, turning fugitive when a bomb -- designed to kill army officers in New Jersey -- accidentally exploded in a New York townhouse.

Prior to that, Ayers and his cohorts succeeded in bombing the Pentagon. Ayers and Dohrn remain unrepentant for their terrorist past. Ayers was pictured in a 2001 article for Chicago magazine, stomping on an American flag, and told the New York Times just before 9/11 that the notion of the United States as a just and fair and decent place "makes me want to puke."

Although Obama actually launched his political career at an event at Ayers's and Dohrn's home, Obama has dismissed Ayers as just "a guy who lives in my neighborhood," and "not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis." For his part, Ayers refuses to discuss his relationship with Obama.

The phony Obama "Fight the Smears" website says that they "have encountered each other occasionally in public life or in the neighborhood."

Wrong. The two men shared an office and Obama knew very well who he was associating with:

Mexico gang seen ramping up meth in Guatemala

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's powerful Sinaloa drug cartel appears to be extending its massive production of methamphetamine into neighboring Guatemala, as hundreds of tons of precursor chemicals stream into the Central American nation.

While Mexico is usually estimated to be the main supplier of meth used in the United States, seizure data suggest that neighboring Guatemala could in fact be producing as much or more.

That data, along with interviews with U.S. and Guatemalan officials, also indicate that Sinaloa cartel chief Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is taking advantage of Guatemala's remote, isolated mountains and an alliance with a key Guatemalan trafficker to make the Central American nation a new international meth production base.

Mexican authorities seized 675 tons of a key precursor chemical in December alone, and all of it was heading for Guatemala. Officials in Guatemala, meanwhile, have seized 7,847 barrels of precursors in 2011, equivalent to about 1,600 tons and far more than Mexico's total seizures of 1,200 tons in the same year.

The Guatemala-bound chemical seized in Mexico, methylamine, can yield its weight in uncut meth, according to Steve Preisler, an industrial chemist called the father of modern meth-making.

That means the total amount seized in or heading to Guatemala could theoretically produce more than a billion one-gram doses of pure meth, and billions more if cut to street-level purity.

Authorities say it's not entirely clear where Sinaloa could sell thousands of tons of methamphetamine, if it produced that much. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime said in its 2011 World Report that total meth seizures worldwide amounted to 65 tons.

But there are many signs pointing to the Sinaloa cartel's involvement in an extensive chain of meth production and distribution. The gang has already moved into industrial-scale meth production in Mexico. And after several big labs in Mexico were raided, the cartel may feel more comfortable operating in Guatemala.

"Sinaloa is the main group down there that is producing meth," said a senior U.S. law enforcement official in Mexico City, who could not be quoted by name for security reasons.

Guatemalan Interior Minister Carlos Menocal said the Mexican cartel has prepared its operations by doing business with a gang in his country led by Juan Alberto Ortiz Lopez, nicknamed "Chamale," who, before his arrest in March, was identified by the United States as the most important trafficker in Guatemala.

"What we have found is that Chamale has links to the Sinaloa cartel," Menocal told The Associated Press. Those links include coordinating the processing or "cooking" of meth, he said.
"An analysis by Guatemala's intelligence indicates the laboratories were managed by Mexicans," Menocal said. "They come to oversee the drug production process; Mexican chemists came to establish the formulas and local people talk about Mexicans who came and went, doing this work."
The U.N. drug office's regional representative, Antonio Mazzitelli, said the increased seizures in Mexico and Central America may largely reflect more vigilance by authorities.
"Maybe the amount coming in hasn't changed," the U.S. official said, "but now they've identified the problem and they're going after it and so now we're seeing the seizures go up."

Either way, evidence points to the Sinaloa connection: Five huge shipments of methylamine seized in December were found at Mexican ports that authorities believe are used by the Sinaloa cartel, and all were bound, according to shipping papers, for the Guatemala port of Puerto Quetzal.

Guatemalan authorities said they discovered two meth laboratories in western Guatemala, near the border with Mexico, where they found traces of phenylacetone, a chemical that, in one production method is combined with methylamine to produce meth.

The approximately 1,600 tons of precursors Guatemala seized in 2011 compare with only about 400 tons seized there in 2010.

Preisler wrote in an email message that "roughly one part by weight methylamine would react with one part by weight phenylacetone to produce a little over one part by weight of pure meth."

Few people use pure meth, and street cuts can be three or even five parts filler, so 2,200 tons of methylamine seized in the two countries could produce some 6.6 billion cut doses. At $100 per gram, that could net hundreds of billions of dollars on the street.

Judge rules against Arizona sheriff in immigrant stops

Reuters) - A federal judge on Friday barred high profile Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio from detaining people simply for being in the country illegally, in a ruling that faulted the local lawman for enforcing federal immigration law.

The 40-page written opinion by U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow came on the same day he issued legal sanctions against Arpaio over destroyed documents.

The decisions come as a further blow for the controversial sheriff, who already has faced rebukes from the U.S. Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security.

Both rulings by Snow stemmed from a 2007 civil lawsuit against Arpaio and his agency, which accuses his officers of racial profiling of Latinos in traffic stops the judge found were conducted as immigration sweeps.

The judge also said officers with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department (MCSO), which covers Phoenix and surrounding areas, circulated emails that "compared Mexicans to dogs" and portrayed them "as drunks."

"Local law enforcement agencies, such as MCSO, may not enforce civil federal immigration law," Snow said in his written opinion.

He added that the sheriff's agency was "hereby enjoined" from detaining "any person based only on knowledge or reasonable belief, without more, that the person is unlawfully present within the United States."

In his ruling, Snow also granted a request by plaintiffs to certify the lawsuit as a class action.
He defined the class action as encompassing all Latinos "stopped, detained, questioned or searched" by Arpaio's officers "while driving or sitting in a vehicle" on roads or parking areas in Maricopa County.
EVIDENCE DESTRUCTION
Snow also cited the admitted destruction of emails and patrol records by Arpaio's office related to the case. He noted the sheriff's agency never contested those documents were shredded rather than lost.
Further proceedings in the case are expected to be decided by Snow rather than a jury because the plaintiffs have not requested a jury trial.
Snow's sanctions against Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office were outlined in written opinions issued a day after the judge heard oral arguments on the matter.

Separately last week, the U.S. Justice Department issued a scathing report accusing Arpaio and his deputies of engaging in a "pervasive culture of discriminatory bias" and violating civil rights laws by singling out Latinos for unlawful detention and arrests.

The same day, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security barred Arpaio's deputies from screening jail inmates for their immigration status.

Arpaio was given until January 4 to agree to negotiations addressing the abuses cited by the Justice Department or face a request for a court order requiring compliance.

The Justice Department's report and the similar allegations raised in the lawsuit relate to Arpaio's controversial efforts to crack down on illegal immigration in Maricopa County.
Those efforts have earned him accolades in conservative political circles. Several candidates for the Republican presidential nomination sought his endorsement, which ultimately went to Texas Governor Rick Perry.
Arpaio has denied that his department engages in racial profiling and accused the Justice Department under President Barack Obama of undermining immigration enforcement.
A lawyer for Arpaio was not available for comment.

The sheriff was a strong supporter of controversial new Arizona law SB 1070, requiring police to check the immigration status of anyone they detain and suspect of being in the country illegally.

That law is under challenge by the Obama administration in a case the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to decide next year.

Aside from the allegation of racial profiling, Arpaio also faces a firestorm over media reports that his office might have given short shrift to hundreds of sex-crime investigations.

VIENNA (AP) — The Mauthausen Memorial Committee says Hans Marsalek, a Nazi resister who helped document the history of the former Nazi concentration camp, has died.

The committee says Marsalek died on Friday at age 97.

Marsalek was arrested and sent to Mauthausen, in Upper Austria, in 1942 for his opposition to the Nazis and survived there until the Allies liberated the camp in 1945.

He was a leading member of the committee, which turned the camp into a memorial to the crimes committed by the Hitler regime.

The Nazis shot, gassed, beat or worked to death about half the 200,000 inmates in the main camp or its affiliates. About 200,000 people visit Mauthausen each year.

Heath and Deborah Campbell, the New Jersey parents of three children with Nazi-inspired names, lost custody of their fourth child 17 hours after he was born, the Express-Times of Lehigh Valley, Pa., reported.
Hons Campbell was taken into custody by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services late Thursday night after the doctor who delivered the baby called the agency, the paper reported.
“There’s no legal binding court order. It’s basically a kidnapping, but they use different terms,” Heath Campbell told the Express-Times.
The Campbell family stepped into the spotlight in December 2008 when a ShopRite grovery store declined to decorate a birthday cake for their son Adolf Hitler Campbell’s third birthday.
The state took custody of Adolf, along with his sisters JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Himler Jeannie Campbell, in January of 2009. The three children have remained in foster care ever since.
A DYFS spokesperson told ABCNews.com in 2009 that she could not comment on a specific case, but said children are only taken into custody if there is a suspicion of abuse or neglect.
“We would never remove a child simply based on their name,” the spokeswoman said.
Neighbor Lori Dilts told ABCNews.com at the time the children were taken that it was certainly not because of their names.
“Those children look outwardly healthy, but they didn’t have much freedom,” Dilts said. “Occasionally, the little boy would come over here and would hate having to go back to his house.”
The couple’s attorney, Pasquale Giannetta, told The Associated Press that a court a hearing has been scheduled for Monday to determine the custody status of the newborn.

MY PARANORMAL EXPERIENCE

Today, being Halloween and all, I decided to share my paranormal experience that happened to me aobut almost 12 years ago now as I thought it might Be a little more entertaining considering the time of year and all.

Well at the time period, I was still traveling around the country as a surveyor doing this that or another here and there and it was impractical for me to keep a place here in Texas as I was home maybe like a few weeks at a time then, well when I did come home it was usally in December and I would stay at my half sister’s home, you know lay some bucks on them for letting me stay and then be back on the road around January.

So any way, I of course had met various people in my travels and kept in touch via the by internet chatting on a chat client that I use bullshitting and such on there well, it was man, I really do not recall the time but I do know it was very late at night after 12 for sure, and here the computer was sitting in the front corner of the living room, a very large one by the way, and I felt like something ws staring at me, now the hall way that entered the living room, was at the opposite end of where iw s sitting, it led from the back of the hosue where the bedrooms nd bathrooms are set, well, I ws thinking , as I felt someone was looking at me , tat it ws my little nephew thinking “hey, uncle Robert is home its party time!” lol well, I turned and this is what I saw, this all happened in like id say 3 seconds at most and was very stunning and a bit scary to boot, I turned and I looked and where the hall way meets the living room, I seen this, swirling mass of smoke? About a foot above the floor swirling, with a diameter of at lest 3 feet and I knew do not ask me how I knew but I knew, it was very angry and pissed off!

Well, it kept swirling then all of the sudden rushed right at me, making me jump, tho I do not recall feeling anything, but it damn sure scared me if you follow me on this

Now at this moment I did realize that something had happened , and no I was not drunk or under the influence of any drugs or drink at all, now of course if I had been I would have attributed it to that but since it was not I do believe that it was of a spiritual nature!

Now the next day I did of course ask questions about the history of the house as I do feel that there is more to this life then what we know or see now in front of us and I did find out that when they, brother-in-law and sister bought the house that they got it real cheap , a old man and a woman had sold it so that they could go off and live in Florida for the rest of their lives but, the thing was this, the woman that was with the old man, was the sister of the woman who had died there at that home like 6 weeks beforehand!

Yeah no shit! So my theory? It is this, that obviously the old man and sister was carrying on sometime before the older sister died form whatever disease she had, and might have helped her right on out if you know what I mean there, and know or possibly knew, that there was something going o between the two so when she passed away she was pissed off then as she was in life and quiet possibly trapped there in that house by her hurt, anger whatever was causing her to be trapped there for god only knows how long, I am by any means a authority on such things, and later on after I had left,I did wonder till this day, sister and bro in law have divorced and no one lives there to my knowledge , if that woman’s spirit is still trapped there to this day?

Mexico detains 15-year-old in drug murders

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Mexican police have detained a 15-year-old boy who allegedly has confessed to running a drug trafficking gang on the Caribbean island of Isla Mujeres and murdering two women drug dealers.

It is the second time in a year that a young male has been detained in Mexico as a purported drug gang killer. Last November, soldiers detained a 14-year-old U.S. citizen who confessed to killing four people whose beheaded bodies were found hanging from a bridge.

The Isla Mujeres cases involve a youth who prosecutors identify only by his nickname, "El Gallito" or "The Little Rooster".

Quintana Roo state prosecutors quote the boy as saying that he and two older associates killed the two women at a hotel on Isla Mujeres.

Basement case could be US hate crime

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The case of four mentally disabled adults locked up in a basement crawl space in an alleged scheme by their captors to collect their U.S. benefit checks could be among the first of its kind prosecuted as a federal hate crime, an FBI official said Wednesday.

The law was recently expanded to include victims with disabilities, and the FBI is taking a broad look at the complex, multi-state case, said the bureau official, who was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

A fourth person was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of kidnapping as part of the alleged scheme. Jean McIntosh, 32, is the daughter of alleged ringleader Linda Weston.

A landlord described McIntosh as a former Army nurse who lived in an apartment above the basement with her two teenage children.

McIntosh was arrested a day after Philadelphia police took 10 young people linked to the case into protective custody.

The six juveniles and four young adults found Tuesday, ages 2 to 19, are thought to be related to the suspects and perhaps some of the victims, police spokesman Lt. Raymond Evers said. Authorities are conducting DNA tests and obtaining birth certificates to try to determine the nature of the various relationships.

Police described the 19-year-old as Weston's niece and say she was found malnourished and showed signs of abuse.

McIntosh was arrested around 3:45 a.m. after detectives questioned her about the case. Weston had arrived at her apartment building from Florida this month with two men, the four disabled adults and others in tow, according to neighbors, the landlord and police.
McIntosh is expected to be arraigned later Wednesday on kidnapping, conspiracy and other charges, District Attorney Seth Williams said. It's not immediately clear if she has an attorney. According to her landlord, she had a key to the basement.

Weston's defense lawyer has not returned calls seeking comment.

The disabled adults were found in a locked boiler room by the landlord Saturday. Police believe Weston had been stealing their Social Security disability checks, perhaps as part of a much-larger fraud scheme.

They found dozens of other Social Security and identification cards, along with power of attorney documents, in a search of McIntosh's apartment, where Weston had been staying.

Weston was legally disqualified from cashing the victims' government disability checks because of her criminal past.
But she apparently did anyway, enabled in part by a lack of accountability and follow-through by government agencies and police in Philadelphia and West Palm Beach, Florida.

Weston remains jailed on $2.5 million bail, along with Gregory Thomas, 47, whom Weston described as her boyfriend, and Eddie "the Rev. Ed" Wright, 50. They face similar charges.

Weston had been convicted in the starvation death of a man nearly 30 years ago, though it's unclear how much prison time she served.

The 2009 Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act is named for two victims of notorious hate-based killings and expands earlier federal hate-crimes law to include sexual orientation or disability, among other things.

The law has been used sparingly since its passage. The first to go to trial was the case of Frankie Mayberry, of Green Forest, Arkansas, who was convicted in May of attacking a car last year with five Hispanic men inside it.

Thousands rally in DC for easier access to jobs

WASHINGTON (AP) — Thousands of Americans led by the Rev. Al Sharpton and other civic leaders rallied for easier access to jobs on Saturday as they gathered against the backdrop of the Washington Monument and marched to the new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

The rally was intended to drum up support for President Barack Obama's jobs plan, but speakers used the platform for causes as varied as condemning voter identification laws and last month's execution of Troy Davis in Georgia.

Davis was convicted of killing an off-duty police officer. He maintained his innocence until his death, and thousands around the world rallied to his cause. But state and federal courts repeatedly ruled that there was not enough evidence to exonerate him.

Sharpton, the featured speaker at the March on Washington for Jobs and Justice, blasted the U.S. Senate for its failure to pass Obama's $450 billion jobs bill. The measure includes an extension of a payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits, as well as money to help local governments keep teachers and other workers on the job.

"If you can't get the jobs bill done in the suites, then we will get the jobs bill done in the streets," Sharpton said to cheers and applause.

He said Martin Luther King would have supported their cause. King's son Martin Luther King III was also among the speakers.

"Over 45 years ago, my father talked about a redistribution of wealth. In fact, that is probably why he was killed," King said. "Because he said if America is going to survive responsibly, then it must have a redistribution of wealth."

Among those who attended Saturday was Kathie Williams, a part-time administrator for the Howard County, Md., parks and recreation department. She's been struggling to land a full-time job despite an active search.

District Attorney Pat Lykos this week launched a new program, a DA’s Most Wanted List on her website, and a Pasadena murder case from 2006 is one of the 12 cases featured.
Hugo Alberto Hernandez, 42, is a Mexican national who is wanted for murder in Harris County. On Sept. 6, 2004, a victim was shot multiple times, allegedly by Hernandez, by the father of his stepson as the 14-year-old stepson watched.

OBAMA MARCHES WITH BLACK PANTHERS!

Breitbart has the story and the photos, which raise questions about a number of things including why the Department of Justice closed its investigation of the New Black Panthers in 2009 — after it had already won that case. PJ Media led the coverage of the DOJ’s dismissal of this case, when J. Christian Adams resigned from the Department over the dismissal and told the story here. Was closure of that case a quid pro quo for the Panthers’ public support of Obama in 2007 and 2008?

New photographs obtained exclusively by BigGovernment.com reveal that Barack Obama appeared and marched with members of the New Black Panther Party as he campaigned for president in Selma, Alabama in March 2007.
The photographs, captured from a Flickr photo-sharing account before it was scrubbed, are the latest evidence of the mainstream media’s failure to examine Obama’s extremist ties and radical roots.
In addition, the new images raise questions about the possible motives of the Obama administration in its infamous decision to drop the prosecution of the Panthers for voter intimidation.
The images, presented below, also renew doubts about the transparency of the White House’s guest logs–in particular, whether Panther National Chief Malik Zulu Shabazz is the same “Malik Shabazz” listed among the Obama administration’s early visitors.

Among those appearing with Obama was Shabazz, the Panther leader who was one of the defendants in the voter intimidation case that Attorney General Eric Holder dismissed. Also present was the Panthers’ “Minister of War,” Najee Muhammed, who had called for murdering Dekalb County, Georgia, police officers with AK-47’s and then mocking their widows in this video (7:20 – 8:29).
Injustice [J. Christian Adams' book, which will be released Tuesday] includes a disturbing photo of Shabazz and the Panthers marching behind Obama with raised fists in the “Black Power” salute.

I have learned that Regnery initially received approval from a person who took pictures of the events in Selma to publish these additional photographs in Injustice.
After the photographer wrote Regnery reversing his permission to include the photographs in Injustice, the images were removed from the photographer’s Flickr account. Yet we were able to capture them before they disappeared.
The photographs show Obama sharing the same podium at the event with the Panthers.
In the first image, Shabazz stands at the podium, surrounded by uniformed Panthers, including Muhammed. In the second photograph, Obama commands the same podium.

The New Black Panthers are a radical Muslim black separatist group that, among other things, supported threats of violence against cartoonists in Denmark for their depictions of Muhammad. Members of the group engaged in overt voter intimidation in 2008 in Philadelphia, and the Obama-Holder Department of Justice later dropped the case against them after it had won that case. The Panthers endorsed Obama in 2008, an endorsement that was posted on and later scrubbed from his campaign web site.
I’d say that this is far more relevant than an anonymously painted rock out in West Texas. This is the current president choosing of his own free will to accept support from and appear with some very radical and racist figures, during his rise to power. The New Black Panthers’ militant radicalism and racism are impossible to ignore. A “Malik Shabazz” (not exactly a common name) has appeared numerous times on White House visitor logs since Obama’s inauguration; the White House has insisted that it’s not the same Malik Shabazz who leads the New Black Panther movement but has not produced the alternative Malik Shabazz. Added to the fact that Barack Obama sat in the pews of radical racist pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright for 20 years, borrowing the title for one of his books from him and citing Wright as a mentor, we get a picture of a man who at the very least allied himself with very radical elements when it suited him. And that man is the president of the United States.
And we have a picture of a mainstream media, obsessed with race when it suits them, not asking Obama a single question about this event in Selma or his other links and associations with radicals from the beginning of his political career, to the present.

Update: This is one of several photos in the book that President Obama must address. It’s close to impossible to overstate how noxious a character Shabazz is. Among other things, he led the NBPP’s protests at the Danish embassy in Washington DC during the Muhammad cartoon controversy, siding with the extremists who falsified some of the cartoons and turned those cartoons into a cause for violent riots. Obama’s appearance with Shabazz shows either a total lack of judgement, or reveals something about Obama’s character and beliefs that the nation has a right to know about and assess.

White supremacist executed for Texas dragging

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — A white supremacist gang member was executed Wednesday evening for the infamous dragging death slaying of a black man.

James Byrd Jr., 49, was chained to the back of a pickup truck and pulled whip-like to his death along a bumpy asphalt road in one of the most grisly hate crime murders in recent Texas history.

Lawrence Russell Brewer, 44, was asked if he had any final words, to which he replied: "No. I have no final statement." A single tear hung on the edge of his right eye.

He was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m., 10 minutes after the lethal drugs began flowing into his arms, both covered with intricate black tattoos.

Brewer's parents and two of Byrd's sisters were in attendance.

Appeals to the courts for Brewer were exhausted and no last-day attempts to save his life were filed.

Besides Brewer, John William King, now 36, also was convicted of capital murder and sent to death row for Byrd's death, which shocked the nation for its brutality. King's conviction and death sentence remain under appeal. A third man, Shawn Berry, 36, received a life prison term.
"One down and one to go," Billy Rowles, the retired sheriff who first investigated the horrific scene, said. "That's kind of cruel but that's reality."
Byrd's sister, Clara Taylor, said someone from her brother's family needed to be present to watch Brewer die so she was among witnesses in the death chamber.
"He had choices," she said Tuesday, referring to Brewer. "He made the wrong choices."
While the lethal injection wouldn't compare to the horrible death her brother endured, "Knowing you're going to be executed, that has to be a sobering thought," she said.
It was about 2:30 a.m. on a Sunday, June 7, 1998, when witnesses saw Byrd walking on a road not far from his home in Jasper, a town of more than 7,000 northeast of Houston. Many folks knew he lived off disability checks, couldn't afford his own car and walked where he needed to go. Another witness then saw him riding in the bed of a dark pickup.

Six hours later, the bloody mess found after daybreak was thought at first to be animal road kill. Rowles, a former Texas state trooper who had taken office as sheriff the previous year, believed it was a hit-and-run fatality but evidence didn't match up with someone caught beneath a vehicle. Body parts were scattered and the blood trail began with footprints at what appeared to be the scene of a scuffle.

"I didn't go down that road too far before I knew this was going to be a bad deal," he said at Brewer's trial.

Fingerprints taken from the headless torso identified the victim as Byrd.

Testimony showed the three men and Byrd drove out into the county and stopped along an isolated logging road. A fight broke out and the outnumbered Byrd was tied to the truck bumper with a 24-foot (7-meter) logging chain. Three miles (5 kilometers) later, what was left of his shredded remains was dumped between a black church and cemetery where the pavement ended on the remote road.

Brewer, King and Berry were in custody by the end of the next day.

The crime put Jasper under a national spotlight and lured the likes of the Ku Klux Klan and the Black Panthers, among others, to try to exploit the notoriety of the case which continues — many say unfairly — to brand Jasper more than a decade later.

King was tried first, in Jasper. Brewer's trial was moved 150 miles (240 kilometers) away to Bryan. Berry was tried back in Jasper.

An FBI manhunt is on in Sealy, west of Houston, for an Oklahoma man, believed to be heavily armed, who fled his hometown before he could be tried for sexual abuse of a child.
Agents say Charles Alan Dyer of Duncan, Okla., 31, is wanted for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and should be considered armed and dangerous. They said he is known to be carrying multiple weapons, and local authorities in Oklahoma told media there he could have explosives with him, as well.
Reports indicated Dyer is a former Marine who claims to be part of an organization called the Oath Keepers and who has posted anti-government writings and videos on the Internet.
He was acquitted last year of possessing a grenade launcher that turned out to be one of three stolen from a California military base and designated for shipment to Iraq, according to news reports. The launcher was uncovered in the investigation of the child molestation charge, along with other weapons.
It was not immediately clear why the Sealy area became the focus of the hunt for Dyer. News reports in Oklahoma said he was last seen Aug. 12 as a passenger in a silver 2000 Yukon with Texas license plates being driven by a woman.
Agents set up a command post at the Sealy Community Center and closed Stephen F. Austin State Park late Saturday to conduct a thorough search. The FBI said it was also following tips in other locations in the U.S.
Anyone who spots Dyer or has information about his whereabouts is urged to call local law enforcement or 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Dyer had a court date Aug. 15 on the sexual assault charge, but he didn’t show up. Court records show an arrest warrant was issued, with bail set at $500,000.
According to KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, Dyer was charged with sexual assault in an incident involving a 7-year-old girl at a home in Stephens County in 2010.
